TurkeyIstanbul, Turkey | March 22-23, 2012
Le Meridien Istanbul

Event Review

Highlighting the geographical advantages enjoyed by the country as a gateway between East and West and welcoming an unrivalled mix of leading companies, financial institutions and service providers, Istanbul welcomed the cream of Turkey's financial leaders and other senior figures from further afield to Exporta's 6th Annual Turkey Trade & Export Finance Conference on March 22-23.

Enjoying an unrivalled format that included various company and sector case studies, lively discussions involving various industry participants, informal networking opportunities and superb hospitality at one of the city's newer hotels, the conference highlighted both the outstanding opportunities provided by markets such as MENA and Asia as well as some of the challenges posed by events in the Eurozone and US.

With record attendance figures for the 3rd year running, the audience provided a lively and engaged environment for the various sessions taking place, with some of the key themes including growth expectations for Turkey's economy, reducing the export deficit, liberalisation in the energy sector, generating funding in the agribusiness sector, industry studies within the plastics and automotive sectors, structured commodity finance initiatives, MENA-Turkey trade flows, competition between the ECAs and the private insurance sector, and structures in place for large-scale investment projects.

Proceedings on Day One concluded with an evening reception, allowing delegates to continue their discussions long into the evening.

Following a record attendance in 2011, which attracted over 250 trade leaders from inside and outside the country, Exporta returns to Istanbul in 2012 in eager anticipation of its 6th Annual Turkey Trade & Export Finance Conference, an extensive two-day event organised to cover the key developments in one of the world's most in-demand markets.

Highlighting the advantages the country enjoys as the entry point for East and West as well as a strong global network of global trading partners, discussions will centre on the numerous opportunities available as for companies and financiers alike, with the changing nature of global trade flows and predominance of south-south trade providing Turkey with a strong geographical advantage.

Enjoying a 'working format' that combines detailed insight and case examples with stimulating debate and high level networking, a range of high level issues will be tackled over the course of the two days.

Topics to be discussed:
•Turkey at the centre: Where is the country looking to for its primary trading opportunities?
•Tackling the deficit: The country’s role as a net importer and impact on the export-import balance
•Considering Turkey’s increased presence in the syndicated loan market for funding key sectors
•Outlining the benefits of structured finance when working within capital-intensive sectors
•Discussing trade financing priorities for Turkish exporters both at home and abroad
•Assessing the impact of events such as the Arab Spring on Turkish trade and banking
•Are banks and corporates being given sufficient limits by insurers to cover expanding trade flows?
•Global market trends and forecasts: What are the expectations for 2012?
