Malaysia Trade & Export Finance Conference

Malaysia Trade & Export Finance Conference

MalaysiaKuala Lumpur, Malaysia | November 6, 2012
Mandarin Oriental

Description

Kuala Lumpur provided the setting for Exporta Group’s inaugural Malaysia Trade & Export Finance Conference, where over 130 industry practitioners gathered on 6 November 2012 to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by both Malaysian companies and the financial community tasked with facilitating their trade.

Contextualised by the state government’s raft of initiatives aimed at achieving developed country status by 2020 through trade-driven economic growth, the event was well timed to tackle key issues such as Malaysia’s role as trade hub for the ASEAN region, the need for Malaysian corporates to diversify their funding sources, emerging market trade forecasts, and the ability of the under-utilised Islamic finance sector to facilitate Malaysia’s international trade.

Maybank set the scene for the gathering with a keynote address that highlighted the importance of intra-ASEAN trade in sustaining growth across the region; a theme that was to resurface several times throughout the day’s proceedings.  The conference’s central panel discussion, made up of senior representatives from the banking, insurance and corporate sectors, voiced confidence in the ability of Malaysia’s banking sector to supply sufficient liquidity to support the country’s international trade, while Halliburton’s Alex Lee suggested that cash management should be the key focus for Malaysian businesses.

The day’s agenda included numerous networking breaks, providing delegates with the opportunity to establish relationships with their industry peers, catch up with old friends, and take full advantage of the online networking suite and meeting organiser provided upon registration.

“Today has been a great success”, commented Rupert Sayer, Exporta Asia’s CEO, at the event’s evening drinks reception, “Attendance has exceeded expectations, showing a real need within the market for an event that allows the full cross section of the industry to meet under one roof; we’re very much looking forward to returning next year”

The event welcomed support from both local and international financial institutions including Maybank, RBS, JLT and OCBC, as well as endorsement from the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI).
