Latin America Business Briefing - New Directions, New Risks

Latin America Business Briefing - New Directions, New Risks

UNITED KINGDOMLondon, UNITED KINGDOM | July 19, 2006
The Law Society, London

Event Review

In July Exporta ran another successful morning business briefing in London - this time on Latin American risk. Exclusive Analysis, the strategic intelligence company, supported the event.

We wanted to offer an opportunity to the London market (as opposed to holding an event in North America or Latin America itself) to hear and question experts on the region with particular emphasis on risk, economic potential and political environment. The morning was extremely well attended and comprised talks by specialists on business and risk in the region and covered Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela and as well as debating intra-regional issues such as political and violent risks and the oil and gas industry.Speakers represented the BBC, Bradford University, Bell Pottinger/BP, The Foreign Policy Centre, Moore Asociados and Exclusive Analysis.

Description

Exporta's morning business briefing on Latin America took place on July 19 at The Law Society in London. The morning briefing provided a perfect introduction to the political and strategic risk environment in Latin America today.

A series of specialist speakers (academics, risk consultants, insurers, corporates, journalists) offered views and ideas for understanding the political situations and outlooks in countries such as Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia.

- What are the political situations in these countries and how sustainable are these 'revolutions'

  • - What are the real political and business risks

  • - How will and should foreign investors and the US react

  • - How will Brazil handle the situation

  • - Will there be a contagion effect on the whole region

  • - How will insurers be pricing risks in Latin America accordingly

  • - How do the experts see the situation developing
