Event Review

The Exporta@Sibos event on September 17 was well attended and the various senior-level panel sessions of leading trade heads and specialists in their field very informative. The event was a joint production between Exporta and Swift and finished off this year’s Sibos meeting in Hong Kong.

The first panel concentrated on the emerging forces in global trade that are reshaping the trade finance landscape, including sustaining trade finance through challenging times, risk profiling and liquidity management, medium and long-term outlooks, and the role of the emerging markets.

The second panel considered how the evolving regulatory landscape helps or hinders trade: the impact of Basle II and other regulatory initiatives; risk sensitivity and capital adequacy; the burden of compliance; and future expectations.

The third panel looked at corporate demand for supply chain services, such as evolving supply chain finance models, the impact of the economic downturn, and identifying and implementing new efficiencies.

The final panel discussed paperless trade in Asia: the role of lawyers and banks, various systems employed, and how Hong Kong is ahead of the rest of the world in this area of paperless trade.

Sibos will next be in Amsterdam on October 24-29, 2010.
