Event Review

emeafinance’s third annual African Banking Awards Charity Dinner was held on December 8 at the London Hilton Tower Bridge hotel.
The ceremony was attended by more than 90 representatives of banks and advisers from across the continent, who came to network and celebrate their success during 2010. Over the course of the evening we recognised retail and investment banks as well as other advisers that have demonstrated their dominance in many of Africa’s growth markets.
The evening’s keynote speech was given by Paul Collier, professor of economics and director of the Centre for the study of African Economies at Oxford University. During his speech, Collier discussed the increasing interest in Africa across global industries and the crucial role of the banking community. He also offered insight into the prospects for African governments to borrow commercially.
The dinner was held in support of Unicef, with donations and the proceeds of a silent auction going towards its Schools for Africa initiative and its Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS campaign.
emeafinance congratulates all of the winners and hopes to see many of them return at next year’s event.

Description

As expectations for a global recovery grow, many African banks continue to deliver impressive results, boasting rising profits and increasing their Tier 1 capital through private and even public capital raising efforts.

emeafinance magazine is proud to recognise the progress and success of Africa’s leading banks with our third annual African Bank Awards.

Our awards will be presented to the winners at a charity dinner held at the Hilton Tower Bridge Hotel in London on Wednesday 8 December 2010.

The dinner is a must-attend event for professionals engaged and involved in Africa’s banking sector. The charity dinner not only provides an opportunity to recognise success across the sector but also provides a unique opportunity to network with peers from across the continent.
